African farmers are just as likely to overuse synthetic fertilizer as do our "informed" American farmers. Why not show the African farmers, and maybe the place more emphasis with the American farmers, the benefits of crop rotation and nitrogen fixing bacteria/crops such as beans and legumes(Clover and Hairy Vetch)? Show them this and they won't need to buy synthetic fertilizer and they can grow their own fertilizer as well as improve the soil.
