I have always believed that the practice of feeding sugar syrup to colonies would result in problems. We leave our bees enough honey for them to feed through the winter. They collected it - its only fair that it should support them when they need it. OK so there is less honey to harvest - BUT there are also fewer colonies to replace. I think it is very significant that organic beekeepers are not suffering CCD. They leave the bees enough honey and they are not allowed to use miticides in the hive!!! I think that says it all.

Good to see this. I have always believed that the practice of feeding sugar syrup to colonies would result in problems. Because of the photo,I thought the solution to the pending crisis was going to be increased investment in non-honeybee pollinators.(Photo switched — The Editor)

Ditto on the syrphid photo comment. Unless heat is sufficient to denature that false-potassium-channel protein, the increased concentration inside the bees' intestine, combined with co-infections, would compromise that barrier, then other deeper tissue barriers.

This may have been considered, but the possible concentration of GMO bacteria toxin in corn syrup has me concerned. Sort of reduces the impact of the article, like talking about a mouse and using a photo of a sparrow.(Photo switched — The Editor)

You have used a photograph of a syrphid flower fly not a honeybee.
