We actually believe that, unlike you, any Government Official is all that necessary to the functioning of our republic and society. True to your narrow understanding, you – the Left - still do not get the concept of Conservative contempt and distrust of Government. We don't need government, but you and the aggregate parasite classes do, and our utter lack of interest for its ministrations, except to defend us from foreign and domestic enemies, is maddening for you. Your comment about "fixation on sexual issues where where values are concerned is, of course, a puerile excuse as argument. Having said that, Archeology will prove to you that Money and its pursuit has been necessary to run any business throughout History. The Queen of Sheba travelled long and hard to ask Solomon how he managed to achieve his wealth; Marco Polo went to China in the pursuit of commerce and its reward, money; and, Magallanes was pursuing adventure, knwoledge and commerce/money when he was circumventing the oceans. Today, Government – in particular the current administration - has become a very big business in the pursuit of money.....MY MONEY. Do yourself a favor and go to Russia, the cradle of that super-duper experiment called Communism, one of the derivatives of Marxism that the Lef loves so much, and ask the people what “not pursuing money has done for them.” Their infrastructure, in every sense of the word, is still early XIX Century and in ruins, and they are angry. They are angry because a false ideology mandated against any pursuit, including money, and they have seen the results. Eastern Europe, Cuba, North Korea, all of these countries are full of abject misery in the real and figuratively sense of the word. You see, throughout History, man has always had a quest for entrepreneurism and knowledge, which is fed by the human spirit, and made possible by money. I think this says something about the lack of pursuit of anything by the Lori Kislings of this world, who, after more than 100 years, still don’t get it. Sincerely,Laura Bancos

For Lori KislingAh, the joys of Federalism and genius of our founders.Ms. Kisling, the “pursuit of money” is not the main concern of the Conservative. As my letter got published, I am re-reading all of this. Mr. Maddox's comment about conservatives valuing 'fairness/reciprocity' above all falls down when he takes it immediately to property and money. He misses the point that money can be earned in this country by unfair advantage in the first place, and exploiting workers and law loop holes! Today especially, exporting labor all over the world has created this scenario, but it has also existed in the US from the beginning. This is why the famous conflict in the Federalist Papers between landed slave-owning aristocrats from the South, and urban merchants, craftsmen and industry in the North. Ben Franklin knew though, good thing for us because he made sure aristos were de-fanged as much as possible and we went on to become the most energized, prosperous nation on earth! We need to get that back though, cause the "aristos" (rather ignoble ones today) enacted Buckley vs Valeo, and own a campaign finance system that is killing off the source of innovation in this country...its people!Probably for aristos they really don't need innovation from the people. They just need to own the bottling and food processing plants...like in Latin America or Africa. What better way to remove all possible upstarts and threats of churn in the Forbes 500, than to plead no money for education for 3 decades! However, margins are much much lower when the people are in penury, and it is a self-fulfilling spiral to the bottom (e.g. Venezuela)! This is a slippery slope when we define 'fairness/reciprocity' so narrowly on already made money!

Comments on Haidt are far ranging and intense.
