As a player (35+) and reporter (fmr Dominican Correspondent, Baseball America), I think the mounds can have adverse affects, especially if you did not grow up throwing off these ungodly high ones. When I made my comeback recently, I emulated the style of Dominicans, practiced off-mound, then strained my elbow throwing on mound. I had experienced a great increase in velocity emulating Dominican throwers like Pedro M and KRod. They throw from a low-3/4 angle and fall of the mound, as I was doing. But this causes undue strain and I bet many careers have been left in the dust due to the strain this causes (notwithistading the success of the aforementioned, but there are rumblings about KRods durability, though I think some of that is posturing by club scouts as he heads toward free agency). Just a related hypothesis...-Derek

This does not surprise me.
