Group Thinkers Miss An Original on Truth Commission

It’s always interesting to watch Beltway insiderism at work, so you
might want to take a look at this blog item referencing this short piece on the Washington Note Web
site
which references this video
discussion, all dealing with
the notion of a truth commission to look into apparent human rights
violations during the Bush administration’s conduct of the war on
terror.

To get a fuller look at the possibility of a truth commission, take a look at my column on the subject, which hit the Miller-McCune Web site four days go. Or pop over to “Restoring Moral Authority: Ending Torture, Secret Detention, and the Prison at Guantanamo Bay” in “Terrorism: What the Next President Will Face,” the latest issue of
the ANNALS of The American Academy of Political and Social Science. The
article — by Tom Malinowski, the Washington advocacy director for
Human Rights Watch — is as succinct, stirring and nuanced an argument
for a truth commission as I can imagine. Funny how Washington insiders
somehow forgot to mention him or his article.
