Bernice Yeung is a freelance writer in San Francisco whose work has appeared in The New York Times, Legal Affairs and Mother Jones, among other publications. She first encountered problem-solving courts while doing research at the Bronx Criminal Court as a graduate student at Fordham University, where she received a master's degree in sociology with a focus on crime and justice in 2007.
